Expo2020 Postponement Makes SMEs Regroup

April 28, 2020

In preparations for Expo 2020 many small and medium businesses have made sizable investments and capacity increases as the grand event was about to unfold in a few months. Global pandemic has stopped all events, from small to the biggest to come.

The Executive Committee of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), which oversees the Expo events, has proposed the postponement of the Dubai opening to October 1, 2021 and which will run up to March 31, 2022.

With Expo 2020 postponed, one of the key questions for SMEs now is there enough demand coming in for their products and services to justify the rents and all the attendant expenses that were made in preparations to Expo? For any small or mid-sized business, managing the cash flow in the coming weeks and months is the biggest challenge. However the government of Dubai is operating closely with businesses and launching recovery programmed and numerous levels.
